When my clients ask for help with filing, most often we work to tune up the existing system. After all, it's a system you created and are familiar with. I'm a minimalist at heart; why buy something new if it's not needed? However, sometimes it's worth a very modest investment to start fresh, with an efficient, colorful, well-thought-out system. Clients often report that the clarity and the color give real motivation to tackle the the dreaded chore of filing! I stock basic manila folders and hanging files for you; they are useful to expand existing systems, and to use with some of the great systems shown below:

is straightforward, in use for many years, fine-tuned and improved over time. I have set this system up with a number of my clients, and others have set it up themselves; it's easy to implement. The Container Store has been selling this system for years, and Australian organizer Peter Walsh endorsed it on the Oprah Show. It's also quite economical, using standard file folders.
